A Prayer for Ukraine
Father in heaven, we come to your throne of grace this morning through the mercy of the blood of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. We know you rule and reign over all the earth. You uphold the universe by the word of your power. You are good, and you do good.
Father, we pray for the people of Ukraine as they endure war in their homeland. We pray for strength, courage, perseverance, and wisdom to face Russian aggression. We pray for Russia to turn from its destructive path.
We pray for safety amid the conflict. For peace in times of war. For kindness to find its time to shine. For faith to see its hour to stand. For hope to bear fruit in righteousness. For the enemy’s foot to slip and for the way of heaven to break through down here on earth.
We pray for wisdom and understanding for Ukraine’s brave leaders. In times of such intensity, it isn’t easy to know the right path. We pray they would look to you. We pray they would find wisdom in your word. We pray they would know the right way and that you would reveal it to them.
We pray for all those fleeing their home and settling in new areas, fearing for the lives of those they left behind. We pray for those who will watch their homes be destroyed, who will see their loved ones taken or killed, who will endure the suffering only war brings about. We pray for their endurance, for healing, for help.
We pray for those fighting on both sides. We pray for their safety. We pray the bullets would miss and the missiles would fail, and the war would end in minimal human destruction. We pray that the soldiers will find Christ in the foxhole.
We pray for the churches serving you in Ukrainian cities. May they be a light to their town in times of darkness. May the gospel of Christ be clear and compelling. May your glory be revealed.
We pray for the ministries, relief workers, humanitarian agencies, and all organizations bringing help and healing to a broken nation. Bear them up in your power, Lord.
We pray for believers facing uncertain futures, wondering how God wants them to respond today and tomorrow. We pray for your grace and mercy to flood their hearts. We pray for your felt forgiveness in the gospel of Christ. We pray for your power from on high to lift them. We pray for courage to face the enemy and faith to take the next step, and endurance to keep going.
We pray for those who have never heard the gospel of Christ in Ukraine and Russia. We pray this may be a time of great turning to you. We pray your Son would be seen in his glory. We pray for all those who wonder where God is in these moments. We pray you would show yourself to them—that you are there with them in the struggle, you were always there with them though they couldn’t see before, and you will always be with them because you are a God who dwells with his people.
We pray for you to hasten the day when war will be no more. The day when you make wars cease to the end of the earth, when you break the bow and shatter the spear, when nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.
We pray this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, by whom and through whom and for whom all things exist. Amen.
