The Books I Read in 2020
Well, it’s been an interesting year, hasn’t it? I would say I’m ready for 2021, but I’m learning not to put my hope in a new day but in the same Savior.
Each year, I set out with a goal to read as much as I can. In 2020, I didn’t read as many full books as I had hoped, but I think my overall reading went way up. I read more articles and parts of more books than I did in previous years.
A few notes about the year:
I started out wanting to read all of Shakespeare’s works. I was using a daily reading plan and then when the pandemic came in full force in March, I was consumed with the news about it and just let my reading slide. I got backed up, and like everyone who knows how it feels to get behind on a reading plan, I gave up. I’ll try it again sometime, but probably not in 2021.
I struggled to shorten my list of “The Best” this year. Maybe I’m getting more selective with my reading and therefore everything is a bit more directed to my interests. I don’t know. Whatever it is, my best list felt longer than previous years and there were several I left off that would have been there in any other year, I think.
I typically write a little blurb about each of the best books I read, but this year is ending in typical 2020 fashion and I simply don’t have time to do it.
The list isn’t in any type of ranking. I just look at what I read in chronological order and then put it in either the best or the rest category and list it here. So the last of the best is not the worst, just the last I read.
I’m still working on my reading goals for 2021, but I’m thankful for all I read in 2020. Maybe you’ll find some good reads here for your reading life next year.
