You Aren't A Mistake - No Matter What You Tell Yourself

world The Lord is sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up (Isa 6:1). He is there and he is not moving. He will not be voted out. He will not be overthrown. He won’t stumble and he won’t fail. He will be there ten billion years from now just as he was ten billion years ago. Which means the future promises of God are coming as sure as sunlight at dawn.

This should lift your heart. Christians are a people who live in light of what is to come, not merely in the shadows of what has gone before. For those outside of Christ, this life is as close to heaven as they will ever be. For those inside of Christ, this life is as close to hell as they will ever be. And yet as I look out at the landscape of Christian hope in our time, I see a mere speck of hope and a whole ocean of fear and trepidation. How can this be?

What can faith in the future promises of God do to our fears about what is to come? In this moment, right now, where you are, who you are, with the sins you’re drowning in, with whatever feelings are racing through your body, if you are in Christ you are loved by the Lord sitting upon his throne, high and lifted up.

You aren’t forgotten, though you think you are. You aren’t forsaken, though you fear the world falling away. You aren’t alone, though you wonder if anyone will be there in the end. You are as secure as Christ is, and the Bible is clear as to where he currently resides. The gospel is big enough for all of your fears, for all of your doubts, for all of your insecurities.

Because the gospel is the only thing that is big enough and strong enough to bear the weight of the world, God created a world that was big enough to need this big gospel. Where you are in your life at this very moment is the exact place that God wants you. You are not a mistake, no matter what you tell yourself. God doesn’t make mistakes. And just as sure as he is sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, so you one day will join him there, glorified for eternity.
