A Birthday Poem for My Wife

Grown another year with me;

We see the best may yet to be.

Deeper in truth and life I see

God’s graceful hand touched to thee!

Life and breath do we share;

‘Round us praise and prayer.

Such beauty lies in the stare.

Slacking rare and flinching ne’er.

A love full, sweetness lies

Piercing kindly from thy eyes.

Aged but little, yet mounting wise

In trial, in toil, in grace thy rise!

Left handed finger holds fast the ring

That binds thou, queen, to me, thy king.

Yet a Savior’s cross dost thou tighter cling;

Repenting in winter to cleansing spring!

Happy birthday, Sarah!
